Garuda’s Bookshelf
In a world of bite-sized, easily consumable content, we love asking and getting the question, “Have you read any good books lately?” In this month’s bookshelf:
Non-fiction: Unreasonable Hospitality by Will Guidara
Unreasonable Hospitality is by Will Guidara, the former owner of the world-famous Eleven Madison Park restaurant in New York. At one time the best restaurant in the world, in Unreasonable Hospitality Will goes into how he and his team constantly pushed the boundaries of hospitality to create the award-winning experience. This book pairs exceptionally well with another excellent (and previously recommended book) Setting the Table by Danny Meyer. It shouldn’t come as a coincidence then that Will Guidara happened to work for Danny Meyer before turning Eleven Madison Park into what it is today. The book is relevant not just for restaurateurs but for anyone building a business, in a managerial role, or who works with others.
Fiction: Red Moon by Nick Harkaway
Red Moon by Kim Stanley Robinson is set 30 years into a future where man has colonized the moon. The sci-fi thriller is a gripping read that makes us wonder what life will look like when man finally colonizes another planet. It’s an enjoyable, easy read and a great look at potential interstellar politics that will likely play out sometime in our lifetimes.
