🎧 🧱 Christy Augustine | The Consulting to Startup COO Playbook
Christy was an engineer first, before getting the itch to learn the "business side". In this episode we learn how she moved from Bain to startupland, and grew into the COO role at Bloomreach
Our latest episode Garuda Ventures' Brick by Brick podcast is with a very special person, Christina Augustine, COO at Bloomreach.
Christy is incredibly thoughtful, genuine, energetic, and - as you'll learn in the episode - someone that planned her career moves carefully (unlike me and many others :) Thanks for the conversation Christy!
Although the bulk of my time building has been at Okta, my very first role in Silicon Valley in 2013 was at Bloomreach. While it was a short stint, it's a special company with super-high talent density, an awesome business led by an A+ founder/CEO Raj De Datta, and has spawned many relationships and friendships for me. Christy has been there from the earliest days, helping drive the business to the heights it has achieved so far.
In this episode, we cover:
The value of an engineering degree and training for the "business side"
Why and when strategy consulting (Christy worked at Bain prior to going to back to tech) is a great hire for a startup - and when it's not
Why "collecting all the skills", even if it means a non-linear path, was her journey to becoming a COO
Why founder vision, coupled with a lot of experimentation, helps balance the near-term growth requirements of early-stage with longer-term ambition to build a durable business
We hope you enjoy the conversation! Listen on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or YouTube.
